We’ve been sharing more about our team here at The Nesting Place so you can get to know all the amazing doulas that make what we do possible. We sent questions to each doula, asking about their lives both inside and outside of birthwork. This week, Chimaya was kind enough to share her answers. Take a look below!

What has been the best part of being a Doula?Â
Meeting new people. I really like hearing about their lives and journeys. Anyone I’ve worked with knows I love to chat!
What is your favourite movie?
This is hard- depends on the mood. My comfort watch rotation includes, Legally Blonde, The Devil wears Prada, the Twilight series, Waiting to exhale, Two can play that game and Bridesmaids.
If you could have one super power what would it be and why?
The power to have any meal I want at the snap of my fingers (like instantly- not food delivery). Multiple courses too!
What’s your favourite item in your doula bag?Â
I don’t have a favourite- just me
If you weren’t working in birthwork what do you think you’d be doing?
Being a yoga teacher
What advice do you often give to clients?Â
“Please take it easy on yourself. You’re trying your very best”
What’s your go-to snack?
Depends- lately it’s been greek yogurt snack packs that come with crunchies you can add on top.
If humans started a colony on Mars, would you go live there?
No thanks 🙂
What book do you always recommend to people?
Nurture by Erica Chidi
Birth Partner by Penny Simkins
The first forty days by Heng Ou
What’s a hobby you have that people might not know about?
My hobbies change constantly but right now I’m playing Roblux and Mario Kart with my kids. This fall, I plan to dabble in crochet.
What would you sing at Karaoke night?
It’s gonna be me- Nsync
When did you first learn what a doula was?
After my third pregnancy, I started google searching “holistic pregnancy support” and “in hospital labour help”. I knew that there was something missing from my care and figured there had to be something like what I needed out there.
What’s the last TV show you binged?
The Ultimatum-Â Marry or Move on- so good!
What self-care or routine do you use that could be helpful for others?Â
Audio Journaling- I usually go for a walk and allow myself to get everything off my mind. Sometimes it’s 10 minutes, other times 40. Regardless, each time I journal this way, I gain so much clarity and calm.
How do you see birth support and doula work changing in the next 5 to 10 years?
I would love to see much more cultural diversity in doula work. I love seeing doula infuse their own ancestral traditions, foods and care back into their own communities. It’s very much needed!
