Giving birth naturally means giving birth in the way that comes naturally to you.

These classes are designed for parents who want to significantly develop their coping abilities for birth and understand both the emotional and physical experience of labour. This is not a 'textbook' class - parents engage in activities that help them understand how they will experience labour and discover what coping and support practices will best suit their unique labour experience.

If there's one thing we know for sure about birth it's that we can't know what your birth will look like. To fully prepare parents for birth, we consider all possible paths of coping and delivery and ensure our participants understand how to navigate situations when the unexpected occurs. Parents leaving class have a better understanding of how to gather information from their health care team, their patient rights, how best to modify support in different birth scenarios and how to cope when labour takes a different path than that intended.Comparison Birthing From Within and Hospital Prenatal Class

What makes Birthing From Within different from other prenatal classes?

Four Unique Things About Birthing From Within:

Mentoring Style: We take on a mentoring approach to our classes with the understanding that every parent holds their own expertise about their experience of birth. You are the expert on what works for you in terms of coping and support- our job in class is to give you a good understanding of what to expect from labour (emotionally, physically and situationally) so that you can better anticipate what you'll need to feel supported during your labour.

Pain Coping: Parents will experience 4-5 hours of pain coping and labour support practices over the course of our class series. It is with this practice that birthing mothers build confidence in themselves to cope with labour and partners feel more capable and helpful as birth supporters.

Special Class for Partners: Partner's often experience feelings of helplessness or overwhelm as they take on the responsbility of support for the labouring mother. In class, we offer partners a special look into what their experience of birth might be like and help them identify support resources for their experience of birth. A special class for partners is incorporated into every series to address the unique needs of partner's during labour. Their confidence is built throughout the class as they become comfortable leading their ladies through coping practices and understand what challenges they'll be presented with in birth.

Coping With the Unexpected: Part of being fully prepared for birth is being prepared for unexpected or unwanted birth scenarios. Parents are gently invited to consider all paths of birth and invited to discuss if/how their support would change should the unexpected happen. From this activity parents understand what to expect in different birth scenarios, how to gather information from their health care team, their patient rights and what they can do to cope during an unexpected event.
